It seems to be a tradition that car clubs hold events in places which aren’t that accessible to the general public. Following the success of ‘Lancia in the Piazza’ in 2003 we are doing the opposite by displaying almost a century of Lancia in the heart of London, again in Covent Garden’s world renowned Piazza, courtesy of CapCo Covent Garden PLC and Westminster City Council, the respective owners - to whom - thanks for your assistance!
Showcase of Italian automobile design and technical innovation from the early 20th century up to today, with virtually every model on display as a celebration of both Lancia’s Centenary and the LMC’s 60th anniversary. We hope you can join us to enjoy this event and wander round the Covent Garden Market with its interesting array of specialist shops, and many restaurants and bars. In addition to the display of cars we are repeating the very successful opera performances held in 2003 with arias by Puccini being sung from the back of John Turner’s Lambda – the same model the maestro drove in the 1920’s and there will be wandering opera singers singing other Italian opera.Because space in the Piazza is limited to around eighty cars the Centenary Committee (see below) has had the difficult task of selecting a set of cars which as far as possible represent the variety produced by the company over the past 100 years, and this means that in some cases first rate examples of a particular model have had to be excluded to make way for other types. Invitations have now gone to those on the list. We hope that many other Club members and others will come to this unique event but those coming by car will find the square closed and are advised to go to www.westminster.gov.uk and look under car parks. Although this is a Sunday and you can park on single yellow lines in Westminster (unless indicated otherwise) these spaces are very limited. For on street parking you may find north of Oxford Street easier or the other side of Kingsway. If you are coming by public transport alight at Covent Garden or Leicester Square. Charing Cross is the nearest over-ground station. If you are arriving at another over-ground station there are many buses into the West End.
If you are making a weekend of it please remember that the Congestion Charge applies during the week and you will need to ring 0845-900-1234 to pay. The same applies to participants. It does not apply during weekends.
