2010 - A review of Lancia Motor Club events.

Classic Motor Show at the NEC, 12 – 14 November

The theme for the Lancia Motor Club stand at the Classic Motor Show was 80 years of Pininfarina.  Six Pininfarina bodied cars were on display which included a Lambda, Aurelia B50, Flaminia 3B, Appia Coupe, 2000HF and Gamma Coupe S1.  The high quality and range of cars on display enabled the Lancia Motor Club to beat off strong competition from the Alfa Romeo owners Club to win the award for the stand with the ‘Most Interesting Selection of Cars’.  The Lancia presence at the show was augmented by displays from the Thema & Dedra Consortium, Flavia & 2000 Consortium, Beta Forum and Montecarlo Consortium displaying a total of 21 Lancia’s.

Cotswold Economy Drive 21-22 August

cotswold rally
In the past , allowed drivers to establish the approximate fuel consumption of their vehicle by driving a specified, 120 mile route through the Cotswolds, as laid down by the organisers. To provide extra interest each crew was allowed a pre event estimate as to their performance, with gold, silver and bronze awards being presented for accuracy.
In the end, only one crew, Simon and Helen Brooks, achieved a ‘gold’, their 1955 Swallow Doretti achieving 28.267mpg and thus a mere .952 penalty, while six cars, lead by the Lancia Beta of John Jenkins and Joan Clark managed a silver with less than a two per cent error. All others that finished were presented with a bronze and most left determined to do better next year.

Great North Weekend Guisborough North Yorks 19- 21 March

Lancia Motor club

The annual Great Northern Weekend was held in the North Yorkshire town of Guisborough.  Following the normal relaxed format for the weekend, there was an observational tour with lots of clues to look out for.  The tour route took members through the countryside where the programme “Heartbeat” is filmed.  There was a good selection of cars present, ranging from a Series 3 Appia up to the current Delta.

Pre-1973 vehicles and Car Clubs event at Brooklands 1 January

Lancia at Brooklands 2010

A well attended event despite the freezing conditions, we had a dusting of snow the night before, but fortunately sunshine all day. We had 12 Lancias on show amongst the wide range of other makes, from Dilambda, Augusta, Appia, Aurelia, many Fulvias (2 Berlinas, 1 Zagato and 3 Coupes), Beta VX and an integrale evo1. Many visitors too, nice to meet some long distance visitors from South Africa. A photo was taken of 3 of us holding the Lancia Banner up, with the cars behind us for Classic Car Weekly, may be in print in a few weeks time.
