2004
- A review of Lancia Motor Club events

Lancia
Motor Club Aurelia Lunch at Weston Green Near Oxford March 14th
Over nineteen Aurelia gathered together at the Manor House. Another
great event superbly organised by the senior Aurelia anorak in UK
Mike Jennings. The star car of the day was a very rare B52 car with
special body.

Lancia Motor Club Aprilias in Someset 20th-21st March 2004
LMC Aprilia owners enjoyed a delightful weekend in North coast of
west Somerset. Tim and Ann Riley of the Oaks Hotel Porlock hosted
the event.
The event attracted a number of Lancia Aprilias, the revolutionary
1930s creation of Battisa Falchetto. Also a very rare Appia
series one and Aurelia fourth series B20.
The gentle navigation rally started off from the Oaks Hotel at Porlock
just after 10am after some pre-event tinkering and a photo call.
The tour wound its way across Exmoor, crossing some interesting
fords swollen by the winters rains. One of these fords caused
a problem with one of the modern Lancias following the event. The
tour passed through Simonsbath and stopped for a fantastic Sunday
Lunch at Raleigh Cross Pub. The Rally continued during the afternoon
and finally finished back at the Oaks Hotel for a cream Tea.

Lancia Motor Club Goodwood Motor Racing Circuit Track Day, 3rd
April 2004.
The Lancia Motor club returned to this famous circuit and fielded
a wide selection of Lancias taking part in the track day, including
Aurelia B20s, Fulvias, Betas, Deltas, and Integrales. The numerous
spectators brought a mouth-watering selection of Lancias with them,
including an Aprilia, an Appia, Aurelia B24 spider, a Flavia Coupe,
a 2000 sedan, and some and Themas.
A number of famous Lancisti were also in attendance, including Barry
Waterhouse who unfortunately for the spectators was not driving.

Great Northern Weekend 9th to 11th April 2004
Was held in Edzell in the Angus region of Scotland. At the Glenesk
Hotel, over 60 Lancia enthusiasts arrived to enjoy a social weekend
from the all over the UK and mainland Europe. The oldest car present
was a Lancia Appia Coupe built in 1957 and driven to Edzell from
Chesire by Paul Bishop. Lancias from 6 decades were present including
the very latest Ypsilon model brought to the Glenesk Hotel as one
of 3 cars from The Netherlands. A flexible programme had been arranged
by organiser Leo Capaldi from Edinburgh. So that guests could freely
explore the surrounding countryside.Sight-seeing
for the guests included many of the Angus region attractions including
Edzell Castle, Brechin Railway and Brechin Cathedral. Good weather
helped to enhance the visitors impression of the area and
many made the trip over Cairn OMount to Balmoral Castle, appreciating
the view from the top.
An
observation tour took the cars south through Kirriemuir and back
to Edzell via Brechin. The guests were tasked with identifying signs
and items at the roadside as they took in the scenery and the unanimous
comments were that they had travelled through beautiful countryside
and had been able to proceed at a leisurely pace due to the sparse
traffic. Other challenges formed a general knowledge quiz and inevitably
some questions about the history of the Lancia marque. As a result
Sunday lunch was followed by a prize giving where Mike and Viv Pannell
from Newcastle were announced to be the overall winners. This was
an amazing stroke of fate as they were accompanied by their 15-week-old
son whose middle name is Angus! Indeed the next generation of Lancia
enthusiasts was well represented with similarly aged Joseph Greenway
and several other youngsters present. Kate Adamson from nearby Friockheim
has attended many Lancia events with her parents and did a good
job of presenting most of the awards. These included one for the
Lancia driven the furthest to the event and that went to Barbara
Longlands in her 1966 Fulvia Coupe from Southampton.

Lancia
Motor Club Celtic Rally April 23-25th
Was based at a superb Chateau - Le Manoir de Keruel near Quimper.
The event attracted a number of classic Lancias including: 5 Aurelias
a Ist series Fulvia Coupe and a very rare French built Belna saloon.

Epsom
Sunday Lunch 25th April
The meeting was held at the recently refurbished Rubbing House Pub
situated on Epsom racecourse. The weather was perfect with a powder
blue sky contrasing the famous Epsom green turf.
A truly magnificent turn out of Lancias arrived including three
Lambdas one of which was the ex Strazza 1932 Mille Miglia Lambda.
As well as a much modified Fulvia coupe , a brace of Appias and
a Delta Martini 6 Intergrale. Also in attendance from the Surrey
Vintage Vehicle society was a 1933 Sidley Special and a 1913 Sunbeam
12/16 sports. The lunch was a great sucess with a mouth watering
menu.

near Weymouth at the Portland Heights Hotel, overlooking Chesil

rare 1917 Theta Torpedo Sports. Two Asturas with very interesting
bodies. a very rare Lambda with a Pinin Farina convertible body,

National
Rally and AGM 9th 11th July 2004
Over 300 Lansitia gathered at Eastbrook Hall near Nottingham. The
weekend started with an informal barbecue on the Friday. There was
a gentle-touring rally through the Derbyshire Dales on the Saturday
visiting Chatsworth House and Crich Tramway Village. In the evening
a Gala Dinner was held followed by a question an answer session
with the special guest Sergio Limone, designer of the fabulous 037
Rally car.

The
formal AGM meeting took place swiftly on the Sunday morning allowing
the rest of the day for serious Lancia browsing and chatter and
a chance to look round the trade stands. A serious collection of
Lancia was parked in the walled car park including two ex works
O37s contrasting with the elegance of a 1930s Artena berlina
and a Lambda torpedo. The car that caused the greatest interest
was the Lancia.

Lancia Motor Club Annual Driving Tests, Barbecue and Auto Jumble
15th August
This annual event took place at Richard Thorne's place near Reading.
A select variety of cars took part in the challenging tests that
the club had devised. The oldest being an Lancia Lambda with a 1954
Appia Sedan. Other
Lancias taking part included a Fulvia Coupes, Y10 and an Integrale.
There was brisk trade at the Autojumble with many taking the time
in-between the light showers to look for that elusive
Lancia part.
After the prize giving the showers cleared and the competitors,
marshals and spectators enjoyed a wonderful barbecue prepared by
Richard's wife Nicola and family in their garden.

wide selection of Lancias.
International
Classic Car Show at the NEC Birmingham 22nd-24th October
The Lancia Motor club showcased Zagato bodied cars on the stand
this year . Lancia Flaminia Sport, Lancia Fulvia Sport, and the
very rare Lancia Hyena. The stand featured designers drawings of
other Lancias with a connection to the carrozzeria.
Friday was held as a preview day, so inevitably there were few crowds.
The rest of the weekend, however, saw large crowds at the show.
Many of the club members who visited us were able to enjoy a glass
of wine and some Italian nibbles.
